This video shows the production process of baumkuchen. The history of baumkuchen dates back to 1807, when the first baumkuchen was baked in Salzwedel, a town in the northern German state of Saxony-Anhalt. In this video, I filmed the production process of baumkuchen in the kitchen of a long-established cafe in Berlin, Rabien. Klaus Rabien, the fourth generation of the family, participated directly in the filming and appears in the video as he applies the finishing touches. Unfortunately, he passed away in 2018. He was also active as a photographer specializing in dance during his lifetime, and his work was celebrated in an article in the program of Tanz in August, Berlin's internationally renowned contemporary dance festival.

I'm also a filmmaker and a dancer. I started photography when I was 17 years old, and one of the pieces that inspired me was also an expression of physical beauty, so I felt a deep connection with Klaus while making this video.
